Above & Beyond Sex Ed for Sophomores

Sophomores: together with the rest of your dorm, you'll view Above & Beyond Sex Ed early in fall quarter.

The focus of the program is on developing our sexual citizenship as individuals and as a community. You will get ideas, language, and tools to support you in expressing yourself and communicating with others. The program concludes with four personal stories from fellow students about sexuality and relationships. Above & Beyond Sex Ed is about cultivating empathy, empowerment, and the skills to connect with ourselves and one another. 

Your residential staff will facilitate small-group conversations during pauses in the program.

Background

The Associated Students of Stanford University (ASSU) passed a resolution in 2020 to support requiring mandatory sexual violence prevention education for all four years of the undergraduate experience. The SHARE Title IX Advisory Subcouncil for Prevention Education approved this in March 2021 and it was supported by the Provost.

The 4 years of multimodal education will be structured to build sexual citizenship: develop positive sexuality and end inequities that result in sexual and relationship violence, stalking, gender discrimination, and sexual harassment.

Above & Beyond Sex Ed for sophomores is the first part in expanding education for all class years. Further education will be co-developed with students in an ongoing manner.
